River One: A Harmony of Architecture and Landscape

Shanghai PTArchitects' Residential Masterpiece in Chongqing

River One, a residential project by Shanghai PTArchitects, is a testament to architectural innovation, seamlessly integrating the building's design with Chongqing's unique landscape. This award-winning design is a perfect blend of form, function, and environmental harmony.

Chongqing, also known as the 'Mountain City', is famous for its vast range of elevations. Shanghai PTArchitects, inspired by this unique topography, designed River One to adapt to the local terrain. Each apartment in this residential project boasts an unobstructed view of the landscape, thanks to the careful consideration of the orientation and height of every building. The architects have also cleverly used the landscape design, including elevators and stairs, to smooth over the height differences of the entrances.

The project is strategically located in the Liangjiang New Area of Chongqing, nestled between the Jiangling River and Zhaomu Mountain Park. This location, coupled with the developed traffic network, provides an excellent living environment. River One comprises two residential areas and one commercial area, spanning a total of 220,000 square meters. The first residential phase, already developed, consists of nine apartments housing 223 households in a 60,000 square meter construction area.

In terms of design, the architects have emphasized the building's architectural and sculptural qualities. The façade of the apartments is divided into thirds, adopting a point-line-plane-solid motif. The ground floor contrasts with the building's dense and compact horizontal elements, employing a muted palette of stone materials. The modular sections of the building are outlined by silver-gray aluminum plates and fitted with glass, combining modernity with luxury. Wood-grained aluminum panels separate the windows from the balconies, introducing an element of warmth to the color scheme.

Shanghai PTArchitects have also ensured that the design caters to various family lifestyles. Each apartment features a large, horizontally orientated hall that optimizes ventilation and lighting. The suites are characterized by multiple designs and layouts, accommodating the needs of all age ranges. The overall plan employs an enclosed layout, allowing for two different waterfront experiences. The first row of buildings faces the Jialing River, maximizing the view of the exterior natural landscape. The second row centers around the waterscape within the complex, becoming one with the fluid and interior space.

River One is not just a residential project; it is a celebration of Chongqing's unique landscape. The design's ability to adapt to the local terrain and provide each apartment with a view of the landscape is a testament to the architects' innovative approach. The project, which started in October 2017 and finished in August 2019, was awarded Silver in A' Construction and Real Estate Projects Design Award in 2021, a testament to its outstanding design and innovation.
